Member CommentsI gave away about a hundred Why
Vegans in no time flat after the Washington,
DC premiere of the movie, "Super
Size Me." It made me wish I'd ordered
a box! The film is thoroughly entertaining and
really seems to open people's minds to the idea
of veganism. Morgan Spurlock's girlfriend is
a vegan chef and she put him on a vegan detox
diet after his 30-day McDonald's experiment.
Maybe you could recommend Vegan Outreach volunteers
target screenings of this movie in their hometowns?
It opens nationwide in a few weeks. Maria and I were able to get into
a public middle school and give 5 presentations
to 8th grade science classes for Career Day.
We gave out about 150 Why Vegans, spoke
about various benefits of vegan diet, showed
about 30 minutes of clips from Peaceable
Kingdom, and opened it up for questions/discussion.
We gave additional materials and resources to
those interested. I made a display board that
I downloaded from COK and I have a collection
of empty containers of substitutes that I also
displayed. It went well. We were very fortunate
that the teacher was moved to tears and decided
to change her diet. After the first presentation
she told every other class "I want you
to give your full attention to what I feel is
the most powerful presentation I have ever seen." Thanks for your efforts at getting us the Why
Vegans. We handed out 1300 at the "Walk
for Animals" on Saturday, and 1900 at a
local May Day festival on Sunday. We also helped
distribute them at the Living Green Expo both
days, but I haven't gotten numbers back from
that yet. Thanks to Jack for coming out and speaking
about nutrition and veganism! I've heard nothing
but good reviews from the RD's and the Professor's
that attended, and word has spread throughout
the Human Ecology Dept. What they can't get
over is that you presented the pros and cons.
Plus, the nutrition students had to do a write
up, so they got exposed to the information and
I truly believe that they will benefit from
it! While leafleting, a person asked, "Just
give me one good reason why I should go vegetarian.
Just one." I replied, "There would
be less suffering in the world." "That's
a good reason," he said, taking a Why
Vegan. "I'll look this over."
AAC Milestone! The Adopt a College program has passed 3,000,000 animals saved! In April alone, over 17,000 booklets were distributed on dozens of campuses. Thanks to all the hard-working leafleters and donors who have made this possible!!
