Product of the Week: Better than Cream CheeseChristopher Scott writes: "I was given an 8 oz. tub of Tofutti brand Better Than Cream Cheese - plain. I think it must have been a mistake because it is so good! It has a slight nutty flavor like Wheat Thins - I had a hard time not eating the whole thing at one shot! The only reason I didn't is that one ounce has 80 calories so I only ate half the container at a time." Send your nominees for Product of the Week to product@veganoutreach.org; previous products can be found here.

Notes from Our MembersI've been a vegan for
years, but only recently
(after reading Meat
Market) have I felt a really
strong pull towards activism. In
the past I've been so overwhelmed
by the enormity of the animal rights
issues that I strangely retreated
into doing little to no activism
at all. I'm at this point right
now where I'm feeling like just
my own adherence to a vegan diet
is not enough. I can't be quiet
about these things anymore and I
regret that I've not done any activism
on behalf of the suffering animals
in the past. Not really knowing
where to start, I emailed Erik
Marcus for advice about activism,
and he told me about your Adopt
a College program. Today I leafleted at
the Rutgers campus in New Brunswick,
NJ. After about a minute or two
of leafleting, one guy let me know
that he got a booklet from me last
October, went vegetarian after receiving
it, and shortly after, went vegan.
He said he's been very happy with
his veganism and shook my hand as
a way of thanking me for my role
in this. Shortly after that encounter,
a nice young man came up to let
me know that his class just started
to read some writings by Peter Singer
and Michael Pollan regarding animal
issues, and stated emphatically
that this booklet will be very helpful
to him. I read your booklet
about opposing the cruelties of
factory farming, and I cried so
much ... broke my heart to see how
poor animals are treated. I'm so
disgusted. Since I read the book,
I get sick to my stomach every time
I see people eating anything that
comes out of killed animals. My
meat days are so over! Thank you
so very much for this kind of information.
I'm letting all my friends and family
know about this organization so
we can all support and somehow help
out!
