“Veganuary” Offers Early Year Marketing Boost for Vegan Products, a special report from FoodIngredientsFirst.com, features the work of Matthew Glover and Jane Land, supporters of VO and founders of Veganuary.
|Above is Jane Land leafleting in Leeds, England, where she joined VO’s Director of Outreach, Vic Sjodin, and fellow activists in reaching more than 4,000 students last semester!
FoodIngredientsFirst spoke to Vic Sjodin, the [Director of Outreach] of American organization Vegan Outreach. He firmly believes that the Veganuary movement is quickly driving up demand for vegan produce: “Veganism, and eating less meat is the future. And the future is here. Veganuary is a strong component of the activist movement introducing people to delicious vegan eating. Tofurky products, for example, were just introduced in the UK and they can barely keep up with demand and had to expensively airfreight product because they were selling so fast.”
Jane Land is one of the founders of Veganuary and tells FoodIngredientsFirst the campaign has seen a significant increase in numbers over the past three years: “We are now at an astonishing participant number of 22,000, compared to 12,800 last year and 3,300 in the first year.”
Innova Market Insights reports a 60% increase in product launches with a vegan claim in 2013 from 2012, and a further 52% increase in 2014 from 2013, indicating that food manufacturers are indeed accommodating this lifestyle trend.

Great time leafleting the last Chicago Bears game of the season! David Carter (who’s on the cover of the Compassionate Athlete booklets) was signed to the Bears earlier in 2015, so this was a really good opportunity to raise awareness of the fact that vegans can gain muscle too!
We had made some signs to hold while leafleting [below], which was a big hit – lots of people made encouraging remarks when they saw them. So all in all, signs plus the leaflets, thousands of people saw the compassionate message today! Big thanks to Lucy, Jamie, my mom, and John C. for coming out!
