Welcome Jevranne and Sean!
Vegan Outreach is excited to announce we have two new Outreach Coordinators!
Jevranne “Jev” Martel is VO’s new Canada Outreach Coordinator. Based in Ottawa, Jevranne will be leafleting colleges throughout most of Canada and doing other forms of outreach in her local area.
Jevranne has been a passionate vegan and animal advocate since finding out how animals are treated in August of 2013. She has recently been a full-time volunteer animal activist, organizing events such as leafleting, demonstrations, and video viewings in the Ottawa area.
Before finding out about animal issues, Jevranne was dedicated to motivational speaking and life coaching and has used these skills to help motivate and coach others to be effective activists. Jevranne prides herself in using kindness, compassion, and understanding in her interactions and is now proud to be a part of Vegan Outreach.
Sean Hennessy is VO’s new Greater Ohio Outreach Coordinator. Sean will be based in Naperville, IL, until August when he’ll be based in Columbus.
Sean is currently finishing a master’s degree in agricultural and applied economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he spent four semesters as a graduate teaching assistant in agricultural economics. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in community and international development from the University of Vermont. Previously, Sean worked at the American embassy in South Africa as an agricultural specialist for the US Department of Agriculture, conducting research there during the summer of 2015.
For his master’s thesis, Sean did a study on leafleting effectiveness. Because of his experience conducting this study, Sean will be playing a major role in the research VO undertakes to test the effectiveness of our different campaigns.
You can give a warm welcome to Jev and Sean by donating to their Team Vegan pages!

And thanks to a second incredible donor, we’ve made a lot of headway toward this goal, having raised $137,816 at this halfway point in our campaign! Thank you to these two generous donors, and to everyone who is donating, raising money, and spreading the word about this important fund drive!

Central Florida Earth Day Festival
Yuri Mitzkewich, VO’s Southeast Outreach Coordinator, reports:
It was a long trip across three states to make this one, but such a huge and super veg-friendly event, this Earth Day celebration wasn’t to be missed. With the beautiful weather, everyone was in a great mood, and many in the crowd were curious to know more about VO and vegan eating in general. The Compassionate Choices and Guide to Cruelty-Free Eating booklets were flying, and we had a ton of traffic stopping to talk.
Around noon, I was lucky to have Jyoti Chawla turn up—the leafleting sensation from Jacksonville drove all the way down to represent for VO here today. With incredible energy and enthusiasm, he worked the throngs of people passing through our area—not only getting a solid take rate, but emptying the boxes so fast I was beginning to worry about having enough. Working in spurts, he did a handy 250+ per hour and got Your Choice booklets to nearly 10% of those in attendance. Solid work spreading the message as always!
Another awesome event—so much support for VO in the Orlando area, it’s always a super fun time representing for the animals here!

Just a hello and some great news! The last batch of leaflets VO sent me produced two vegans and three vegetarians—yay! I am mentoring all five and hopeful to transition them fully—they include a neighbor, a lady I met in the doctor’s office, and three college students I met in Pennsylvania.

I was invited to Animal Fest Xalapa, a dog and cat adoption event, and Karen Rosado and I leafleted with very good response. I always take the chance when an opportunity to leaflet or table this kind of event shows up, because the audiences are already sensitive to animal cruelty.
I met Lilia and her dog Susy [below, left]—Lilia had been thinking of eating veg but never knew where to start. After the leaflet and some advice she was ready to start changing her diet. She will use the info in the Spanish section of VO’s website to learn about basic nutrition and easy recipes.
Aldo [below, right] is vegan but he never met another vegan. He was very happy to meet me. He told me he felt encouraged to know there are more like-minded people, and will invite his family and friends to use the info on our web pages.

[Nettie:] Met a number of vegans and only a couple of vegetarians [at the Portland Community College Sylvania Campus]. Several people thanked me for leafleting and commented on what a good thing it is. One guy came over to say he read the booklet and wants to go vegan. Also had a good conversation with a guy who works in the meat department at Safeway. By the end of the conversation he said he’d preach this info to his customers, and we remarked that he needs to switch to the produce department.
[Cobie:] A woman who had just signed up as a mentee in the mentoring program was very excited and requested more booklets to share—she said that it’s important for us to tell people about this issue. Her boyfriend is going to sign up as a mentee too. Later, a woman who has been vegan 30 years thanked me for being there, and when I told her about the mentoring program she sounded interested. Another woman [below] had been vegetarian 5 years because of a booklet her mom brought home.
