Welcome Steve Ann Chambers—Vegan Outreach’s New President

  Steve Ann Chambers

By Jack Norris, Executive Director

I’m excited to announce that after serving as VO’s President since 1993, I am turning the role over to our newest team member, Steve Ann Chambers, Esq.

Steve Ann brings decades of experience in animal protection to Vegan Outreach. She served as the President of the Animal Legal Defense Fund from 1994 to 2007 and more recently as the Director of Philanthropy of the Humane Society Legislative Fund.

As the President of Vegan Outreach, Steve Ann will oversee the philanthropy department and work with me to assess, expand, and implement programs. I will remain the Executive Director.

Steve Ann is an attorney and lifelong animal advocate who was an early practitioner in the field of animal law. While serving as President of the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), she was instrumental in the expansion of animal trust law, and established major donor and planned giving programs which helped give ALDF a permanent niche within animal protection.

Steve Ann went on to become the Director of Philanthropy at the Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF), where she built the major donor and planned giving programs. She also helped give birth to the HSLF Political Action Committee, growing it into the powerful political force it is today.

Steve Ann grew up in Iowa and then moved to Seattle, where she practiced law for a number of years before going to work full-time in animal protection. She’s the proud mother of two grown children and, with them, has fostered well over 100 cats. Steve Ann recently moved back to Iowa to care for her elderly mother.

Welcome, Steve Ann!

Australian Your Choice Booklet

VO has given our booklet for Australia and New Zealand an overhaul. The biggest change is that we went with a companion animal and a farmed animal on the front cover to get people thinking about how it makes no sense to eat some animals when we care so much for others. You can download the PDF here.

My mentor is great, always there when I need her. I follow her on Facebook and she updates constantly with informative articles and posts. Seriously, my mentor is awesome. I’m vegetarian, but am making more and more strides into a vegan lifestyle.

This photo [of Ely, JM, and Beccah, below] is from our outreach at Hope Volleyball Summerfest, a yearly volleyball event that raises money for local charities. We had an amazingly receptive crowd and the perfect crowd to hand out Compassionate Athlete booklets to.
