Thanks for a Phenomenal Semester!
On this Thanksgiving Eve, we’d like to express our gratitude to all of Vegan Outreach’s outreach coordinators, volunteers, and donors who made possible another amazing semester of leafleting schools throughout the US, Mexico, Canada, Australia, and India!
As of mid-November over 900,000 students have been personally handed a hard-hitting booklet explaining the case for not eating animals!
|Above (from left): Nick went vegan after receiving a leaflet last semester at Montclair State; and because of the VO booklets handed to them at Louisiana State, Shea went vegetarian last semester and is now transitioning to vegan, and Jeramiah wants to go vegan!
We’ve spoken to countless people one-on-one, and we’ve had an unprecedented number of students contact us to order our Guide to Cruelty-Free Eating after receiving a booklet. Over 190 people contacted us for a guide from California alone in the most recent batch of requests. And we continue to receive more and more guide requests to ship out all over the nation.
Kimberly Moffatt has been touring the nation and hitting places that are not covered by other outreach coordinators. After finishing upstate New York, she went on to leaflet Oklahoma, Kentucky, New Mexico, and will finish up in Arizona and El Paso.
Yuri Mitzkewich has had a very busy semester leafleting through the Southeast. He went to Tennessee for the first time this fall.
Steve Erlsten has continued his extraordinary efforts in California, often leafleting from early in the morning until afternoon at a college or two, and then going on to leaflet a nearby high school.
Sam Tucker and his army of volunteers in Australia had a massively successful semester! He’s now enjoying some time off Down Under.
Emmanuel Marquez has spearheaded outreach efforts in Mexico—reaching over 100,000 students with the help of volunteers and Katia Rodriguez, VO’s Mexico Campaigns & Spanish Media Coordinator, who joined him for the semester.
|Above (from left): Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez students Damian, Alexis, and Valentin now want to go veg, and vegetarian Daniela asked for more leaflets to share with her classmates!
Jevranne Martel is in the Canadian Prairies at the moment and has been a great addition to Vegan Outreach! She and volunteers have given the animals a strong voice in Canada, reaching over 50,000 students.
Sean Hennessy has done great work in the eastern Midwest, covering Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and western Pennsylvania. Rounding out the western Midwest, Rachel Shippee covered Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
As always, New England Outreach Coordinator Lana Smithson has done a superb job leafleting the Northeast. And Jamila Alfred did VO’s first tour of dozens of historically black colleges and universities, reaching more than 10,000 students at 31 schools with help from volunteers.
In India, we had some bumps this semester—flooding in Goa, late shipments, air pollution in Delhi 900 times over the safe limit, and a sudden currency crisis. Still our India Outreach Coordinator, Pooja Rathor, has been enthusiastically traveling far and wide. She recently represented VO at the biennial India for Animals Conference and has organized many activists and volunteers to start leafleting in India.
A huge shout-out to volunteers and hosts who have supported this awesome group of activists this fall! We’d also like to give special thanks to The Humane League for covering a great deal of colleges this semester!
And last but certainly not least, thank you to our wonderful donors who made every bit of this outreach possible.
To ensure we can do this work and more in 2017, please donate today to our Half Million Dollar Challenge, and your gift will be doubled! Thank you!
Onward. Upward. Plantward!

I am now officially vegan! [My mentor] has done a wonderful job answering all of my practical questions but has also given insight to her own moral position on certain issues that I had trouble with myself.… She always responds in a timely fashion to any questions and puts a lot of detail and effort into her answers. She also checks up on me every once in a while to see how I’m doing with the transition to veganism. I have now been vegan for 21 days!

Today I was joined at the University of Texas at El Paso by the Flores family [above, from left: Adriana, Marina, Jovana, Karla, and Victor], which was awesome since they traveled from so far! We had many conversations with interested students who wanted to try veg or vegan, so we hooked them up with Guide to Cruelty-Free Eating booklets! Below are Brianna and Hector, who both want to try vegan after receiving a leaflet! Great end to my week.
