Pizza Hut Campaign

Vegan Outreach and Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM) launched an online petition in May, calling on Pizza Hut to put a vegan cheese option on their menu. Recently, the campaign hit the streets of Chicago when VO Outreach Coordinator John Deetjen stood outside a Pizza Hut to collect signatures for the campaign.

John Deetjen at Pizza Hut

We picked a busy Pizza Hut location in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood and were met with great response! We simply asked customers going into the Pizza Hut if they had 45 seconds to sign the petition.

We heard many different reasons why people wanted a vegan cheese option. We spoke with vegetarians who are trying to reduce their dairy consumption, and we also heard from people who have vegan friends or family members and want them to have more options at popular chain restaurants. We had a particularly moving conversation with a mother who has two lactose-intolerant children. She said that a vegan option at Pizza Hut would be a big help to her family. This campaign event showed that Chicago—and beyond—is hungry for vegan cheese options.

We need your help to make this campaign a victory! The more signatures we get on our petition, the more attention it will get from Pizza Hut. You can join the thousands of others who have signed the petition at DemandDairyFree.com, and share it with your family and friends!

Recent Feedback

The Vegan Mentor Program has been a great experience so far—I’m really glad I found out about it and signed up. [My mentor] has been able to answer all of my questions regarding veganism, and also has shared a ton of great information about vegan-friendly dining and shopping in the greater Seattle area. She’s been quick to respond to all of my questions, is always friendly, and always happy to help.

Pooja with Darshana, Aniket, Altab, et al. in Kothrud
Above is VO India Outreach Coordinator Pooja Rathor (left) with volunteers Darshana Muzumdar, Aniket Borhade, Altab Hossain, et al.

We did leafleting and video outreach in Kothrud today. It was near a famous grocery store (Big Bazaar), which helped us meet more people who were open to a healthier lifestyle.

I met 56-year-old Shoba Desh Pande [below, left], who turned vegan a year ago as her health was getting worse and her doctor suggested a plant-based diet. Later I came to know that she is fond of animals and now feels far better—not just health-wise but also by not contributing to the meat or dairy industry.

I met Hir, who is an athlete at her college—after a small discussion, she decided to go home and research more about the vegan lifestyle.

Payal Mutha and her husband [above, right] are huge animal lovers and were in complete shock when they came to know about the realities of the dairy industry. They took our contact information to get more details, and Payal said she’d never consume dairy again.

It was an amazing day!
