New Booklets!

By Jack Norris, VO Executive Director

In preparation for the upcoming fall semester, 1.4 million VO booklets just came off the presses—including two brand-new titles! Thank you to our wonderful donors who made this possible!

  What Is Speciesism?

What Is Speciesism? came together as a result of some research I’ve been doing, including:

● Exploring the messaging for social justice causes from the Common Cause Foundation.

● Incorporating the results of a focus group Vegan Outreach conducted at Cosumnes River College in 2016.

● Heeding the results of our Pay Per Read study in which a booklet with a focus on speciesism had a trend towards more dietary change than other booklets.

I’m very excited about this booklet—to quote our Director of Development Lisa Rimmert, “This booklet even makes me want to leaflet!”

El poder de nuestras elecciones alimentarias

We also have a new booklet for Spanish speakers who live in the United States, El poder de nuestras elecciones alimentarias (translation: The Power of Our Food Choices). If you work with Spanish-speaking communities, please check it out!

Finally, the popular Everyone Loves Music is back in stock!

  Everyone Loves Music

Everyone Loves Music is a joint creation with the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition and targets crowds who like bands such as Phish, Disco Biscuits, and Moon Hooch, who tend to be interested in the environment and spirituality. When we first printed it, we had no idea how popular it would be and quickly ran out. This time, we’ve printed plenty of copies, so be sure to order some if you’re able to do outreach to these sorts of crowds!

You can order these and other booklets from our order form.

Thank you!

Recent Feedback

From a mentee in our Vegan Mentor Program:

My goal is no longer to become vegan or even stay vegan, it is simply to thrive on a vegan lifestyle!

[My mentor] has been wonderful! I’ve enjoyed talking to her about the transition process, and she has been very understanding and helpful, answering all of my questions. She takes the time to respond with long, thoughtful emails, which is exactly what I needed from a mentor.

Vegan for life!!! Thanks for checking in and for such a wonderful program!

Emmanuel, Katia, and volunteers at VM anniversary event
Above are VO’s Emmanuel Marquez and Katia Rodriguez with volunteers Karolina Resendez, Valeria Anaya, Angel Ramirez, Angelica Burciaga, Anasofia Vela, Iris Olivares, Carlos Contreras, Sheccid Torres, et al.

Vegetarianos en Monterrey is a local group that has been promoting a plant-based diet for the past nine years. For the anniversary, they organized a small fest with vendors and speakers. I gave a talk to 30 people about the power of our food choices, and we had 21 people use Animal Equality’s iAnimal virtual reality headsets at our table.
